19th Dec: All games cancelled due to the weather.
18th Dec: First XV to face Llandaff North 19th Dec at Hayley Park here
13th Dec: Penarth 13, Rocks 7. A penalty try in the last five minutes of the game clinched the victory for the home team. Back to league action next week, when the Rocks travel across the city to face Llandaff North at Hayley Park.
Seconds beat Sully Sports in the Mallet Cup, taking the spoils 22-21.
11th Dec: League table updated from WRU site.
11th Dec: First XV Team to face Penarth click. Please note that this Cup game is a 2pm kick offand not 2.30pm as previously advertised. Could all players meet at the club for 12.15. Thanks.
6th Dec: Rugby doesn't have to be pretty to be entertaining. Yesterday's game against Brecon was just that... not a pretty win. The December weather played its part and kept the score down to an 8-0 home victory. And a victory it was too. A first half penalty from Rocks outside half was the only high point of that half. The second sank into a front 16 battle with the ball rarely going past either number 10 nor outside the St. Peter's half. The only try of the game was scored by Rocks No.8 Rob O'Brien, who picking the ball up from a scrum and with 40 yards to go drove through would be Brecon tacklers to score an excellent individual try. Rocks forwards battled the storm for the rest of the game camped in our own 22. Good discipline from all players on the pitch in the latter quarter, in the failing light, prevented the travellers from departing with a bonus point.
Archie told me in the bar after the game 'eet woss tuff. Zay trampled all ofver my faace.' Sorry Arch... couldn't see the difference!,

Seconds win at Pentyrch Report by James Mullane
4th Dec: Rocks enter the SWALEC Plate at Round 2 with an away tie to Penarth. Full Draw.
3rd Dec: At last we can get back to action. After weeks of watching our national team with mixed emotions, it's time to get back to league action. Saturday 5th December the Rocks welcome Brecon RFC to the Harlequins. Always a difficult fixture, Brecon will be looking for an away win on Saturday, whist the Rocks will be aiming to stay on top of division three south east, after sharing the spoils with one win a-piece between the two sides last year. Rocks team to face Brecon here.
15th Nov: The weather conditions dictated the style of play yesterday, but St. Peter's played them to perfection taking the spoils by 25 points with no response from Llanishen. In the best refereeing performance St. Peter's have seen all season (a thought possibly not shared by our Llanishen friends) the Rocks defence ensured that the home side had little or no opportunities to score all afternoon. Throughout the game all 19 players who took to the field gave their all ensuring a good platform up front to allow the backs to shine. Chris Churcher commented that it was 'by far the best perfomance so far this season, but there is still a long way to go. Now is not a time for complacency'. Tries by John Patterson, Rob O'Brien, Paul Davies and Tom Nolan off the bench. Penalty by Ryan Jones, who came on and settled comfrtably straight into the 10 position.
Seconds defeat Pentyrch in the East District Cup. Report
13th Nov: First XV to play Llanishen 14th Nov.

3rd Nov: PLANNING RESTRICTION: The case for extending the opening hours at St. Peter's RFC will be heard on Wednesday 18th November 2009. Keep an eye here for further updates.

1st Nov:
Thirds had their first win of the season in their most important game against Llanrumney, sailing through the first round of the Ninian Stuart by 20 points to 13.  A first half try by newly discovered lineout target Leon Casoria, who you would absolutely swear had played before, was followed up by a tremendous monent which vindicated the decision Andy Fairclough made when he was twelve years old, never to pass the ball to anybody else, when he ran through from fifty yards to score the clincher.  The rest of the points came from the inerrant boot of the commanding Mitch.
Mention should be made of eighty year old Mike Baldwin, who despite being bitten by probably rabid Germans, soldiered on to make a massive difference to the course of the game when he wasn't yellow carded.  And of John Paul Murphy, but in a BAD way. Report by The Assassin.
25th Oct: A brace of tries by Pacey Patterson set St. Peter's up for a 26-12 win over Llandaff at the Harlequins yesterday. Four tries in total from the Rocks, who made hard work of getting on top of Llandaff, in a game which could have allowed for far greater running of the ball. When the St. Peter's did run the ball, it was quick and decisive, putting John Patterson clear for two 'half the pitch' run-ins. The O'Brien boys got on the score sheet again with Sean and Rob claiming one each. Llandaff were allowed to get on the score sheet whilst St. Peter's were down to 13 men following two yellow cards. Even John Dunleavy and 'yours truly' were almost yellow carded for being in front of the spectators barrier. Once back to full strength, St. Peter's put together the best try of the game. A Lineout on the 22 gave Rocks quick ball along the line to Sean O'Brien who only needed to run the ball around his winger to complete the move... But that would have been too easy! Sean cut back inside and, reminiscent of a pinball game, Sean aimed himself at as many defenders as possible, colliding with and richocheting off each in turn, before crossing the line back near the left hand post. <<Photos>>
Meanwhile, short of a third team and the second team cancelled, the seconds travelled to Rumney to play their thirds. At time of writing this report, no one in the thirds would provide the final score. Jimmy just said - 'stuffed mate - stuffed' The Assassin however insisted that they weren't
that good, but they were competent and better than us in every position. Andrew, the Impaler, Gallager added, we should have won 'cos we played with so many captains.
The youth went down to Llanharan 40-10. Try by Rory Tonkin. Youth to face St. Alban's in the Cardiff & District Cup next week..

22nd Oct: First XV to Play Llandaff on Saturday 24th October here
20th Oct: All parents, players and supporters of St Peters U 15s and the whole club, would like to send their sincere condolences to the family of John Fuller who passed away recently. John's son, Joe, has been a special player for us this year and I know John would have been very proud of the way Joe tried his heart out on Sunday against the Wanderers (including scoring a great try). The players wore black armbands and had a minutes silence before the game as a mark of their respect. Although we haven't known John long, he and Joe quickly became close members of our Under 15 group. He will be sadly missed and we would like to wish Joe his mum, Maria and their family our thoughts and respect at this sorry time.
The funeral for John will be at Thornhill Crem on the 29th October at 10.15.

Stephen Ireland aims for Touch18th Oct:
A bonus point away to Pentyrch! In one of the best performances of the last few years, St. Peter's overcame a determined Pentyrch XV 5-25. The weather played its part on, what Mike Thomas described as an ''undulating' pitch. Good word Mike. The sun shone and so did the Rocks, throwing the ball wide repeatedly to open up the home defence. The forward platform was the key to the slick back running. Improvements were clear in the pack who made sure that securing safe ball was always a priority. 'Protect the Ball' was the message from Gatland and co. on Tuesday and protect it they did, running phase after phase.
The home supporters were duly aggrieved as the penalty count mounted significantly in favour of St. Peter's but the relentless securing and protecting of the ball by the Rocks forwards was always going to end in an infringement eventually. Hard running from the Rocks centres and Rob O'Brien at No.8 opened the holes further for Stephen Ireland to release the backs. Tries by John Patterson, Luke Reardon and two for Rob (I'm only 2 behind Sean) O'Brien.Llandaff at home next week before the break for the home internationals. <<Photos>> Details of seconds and thirds to follow.

Many thanks tonight from St. Peter's RFC to Warren Gatland, Neil Jenkins and Robin McBryde who came along to training at the Harlequins to help the boys with a few games and drills. An excellent turnout at training tonight from both Seniors and Youth Players, took full advantage of the session provided by the three WRU coaches. <<More Photos>>
13th Oct: Well done to the u14's for their second District tournament win in three years at the Harlequins on Sunday. Full report is on the junior pages. Thanks Matthew.
11th Oct: Comment was made on this site last week about raising a third team. Well we did it again yesterday with bodies to spare! The thirds travelled to Clwb Rygbi where they drew 12 a-piece. Assassin was delighted, particularly with only playing 20 mins himself, coming off with a collossal blood injury. All in all the Rocks should be celebrating - Firsts win, seconds win and the thirds draw... and in truth we had enough for a fourths yesterday. The firsts and seconds both used 5 subs and the thirds 10. That's 65 players - let the good times roll. New players please turn up for training on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6.30 more
10th Oct: Seven tries to one the Rocks came out victors over Fairwater at the Harlequins... with 14 men! In one of the cleanest contests ever witnessed in a Cardiff derby, St. Peter's were left with one man short when Rocks scrum half was sent marching. Keen use of the whistle throughout the game saw another two yellows (one a piece). Regular running rugby from St. Peter's back line, using good ball supplied by a dominant pack, saw the ball moved wide regularly and tries a-plenty. John Patterson and Matthew Khan supplied a try each to support the brace by Rob O'Brien and a Hat trick by brother, Sean O'Brien, who now has six tries from the last two games.
The afternoon was stolen however, by the referee, who, in his excitement to berate a Fairwater No8 uttered "I told you to use it - you didn't use it. Your penalty cost you a mouth!" Well done ref! Final Score 40-10 <<photos>>

Seconds stuffed the Old Illtydians seconds, but their firsts didn't have a game today... there tells a tale! Many familiar faces. Final score 12-27. Tries by macca, Susan Boyle, Martin Silva and Lenny. Always a good win! Braggin' rights to the Rocks tonight!

4th Oct: The most obvious headline following yesterday's performances should rightly be directed towards a 5 try haul for the first XV (Photos and match report). The true headline of the day must however be directed to the impressive, and not to be overlooked, work of Gerald (the Assassin) Phillips and the whole of the coaching team at St. Peter's. Wossalltharabout? Well, despite the ongoing difficulties off the pitch, St. Peter's RFC keeps going from strength to strength on the playing front... Thanks to the dedication to the club of the Assassin, James Mullane, Smudger and co, we once again raised a third team yesterday. How many clubs in South Wales can boast running three senior teams at the moment? Not many, if any, I would suggest! My calculations suggests that almost 60 players took to the field yesterday for the Rocks. As far as the results went... and in the words of Meatloaf... Two Out of Three Ain't Bad! A note from Gerald... "we're hoping to do it again next week with more appropriate opposition ... all new players welcome ... my new phone number of 07895693106".

13th Sept:
The sun shone at Heol Y Cyw yesterday... And so did the Rocks. <<Pictures>> A six try haul gave the Rocks a well deserved bonus point taking the spoils 3-36. Sean O'Brien opened the scoring finishing off strong running from the Rocks backs. The forwards would not be outdone and worked a series of phases, finished by Matthew Khan, directly in front of the 'Heol Y Cyw Voice' who would not be silenced! Bless her! With St Peter's leading 0-12 and attacking the HYC line, Dean Grech provided a superb game changing moment. The defending winger intecepted and ran the length of the field to imaging the start of a fight back. Grech was not having any of it and left the blocks on a full-length diagonal run of the park. Dean Grech ... On fire! The resulting tackle was made about 16mm from the Rocks try line. Just what the doctor ordered before half time. More words to the Rocks at half time from Chunky and Dai Manley asked for even more effort in the second half. Further tries from the mercurial Luke Powell, chiselled Gareth Norman gave us the bonus point we needed. A disappointing 15 minutes followed when Heol Y Cyw camped in St. Peter's half. Although the defence kept out the home side, this was time spent in the wrong half. Determined running again by Dean Grech, this time with ball-in-hand, gave him his well deserved rewards where, ironically, he ran the length of the field, for an interception try, with 'no' opposition chasing. Final nail in the coffin... Try to Owain Lloyd. A first half penalty to the home side gave the final score 3-36. Well done lads.

29th Aug: Now that the trial matches are over, with a win over Kenfig Hill 20-12, now its down to the league starting next week with a home tie against Aberdare. <<Photos>>
Meanwhile, the youth notched up a good win over local boys Llandaff North 41-5. A splendid game by Tom O'Brien and the clear man of the match this week was 'Dobbsy'. Waiter of the day went to Lewis Skrymes for purloining a club shirt. Suitable suffering was appropriate. Just what would his dad think?
24th Aug: Another good trial match for St. Peter's coming 'just' second to Mountain Ash 15-14. An excellent performance against a good second division team. Training Tuesday and Thursday this week before a final trial invites Kenfig Hill to the Harlequins.
16th Aug: Good start for the season with a 24-22 home win against visiting second division team, Mountain Ash. Both teams had clearly put in the graft during the closed season, but in this trial / match the Rocks clearly put together far more of their set plays and a try count of 4 to 3 demonstrated the hard work of the Rocks. The opening try from Gareth Norman showed what is (hopefully) to come in the rest of the season. A well worked back move using dummy runners opened the Ash gap for Gareth to glide through for his first, but not last, of the 2009-10 campaign. A second team effort set Richard Kemble up for a well manufactured try. A game highlight was prop Jamie Boyle bursting from a piece and running 'fast as flip' a full 25 metres to the waiting try line. The game was sealed after a series of phases with Owain Smith (no9) crossing. Notable other performances include Paul O'Brien - Hooker, Tom Nolan - top all round game and Matthew McCarthy in the centre whose aggressive running and tackling clearly make him a promising 12. Good start Rocks.

Baseball

26th July: Baseball news:The boys managed to scrape a win into the final of the league cup yesterday and with only ten men! They won by two runs over a good batting side of Rumney RFC. Young Tom O'Brien, who represented Wales against England under 16s last week, batted well. He also stood in for regular-backstop John Dunleavy away with the family on holiday. Tom stood up well to the power-bowling of Mark Dunleavy and took everything in the glove. Besides Tom and Mark's batting tally, others such as Tom's father Kevin, Chris Sage Gareth Jones, Geraint Bladen and others all hit valuable scores to make it a good team victory. The final will be played next Sunday against Caerua/Ely and the boys would be glad of your support. Venue to be named this week

16th May:
Notes from Paul Ring... Just a few words and congratulations about the under 14s season so far.
In the passed few years the Rocks Under 14s have been the team everyone wants to beat at this particular age group, at one stage going almost 2 years without defeat. This season however they have had to re structure their game in order to cope with the physicality other teams have brought.
Our team have also got some big boys but the change in stature and maturity is a new learning curb for everyone. Early on this season we struggled against some big sides, winning one week and losing the next. Usually going down by the odd points or try. Yystrad Mynach, Bridgend and Rumney in the return match comes to mind. (It can only be a good thing to have a strong Rumney team mind, and its good to see them coming back.!)
We came un stuck for the first time I can remember against a very strong Pontypridd side that took us by surprise, and in the second half of that game played some great rugby. However we made some great strides in the 2nd half of the season culminating in reaching the BLUES CUP FINAL, also getting to the final of the district and Vale tournament final, and taking the silverware at the Southport Festval, (YOU SHOULD SEE THE CUP!!!!) where we played 7 game unbeaten.
It was cracking final against Pill Newport with some amazing defence. It must also be mentioned that the boys behaved impeccably on tour and represented St Peters proudly. (Congratulations also to the U 12s who recieved the FAIR PLAY AWARD)
The semi final Blues game was a real treat, after 20 mins of real pressure by Penarth, which the boys stood up to well, we ran out convincing winners. And although we got beat convincingly in the final of the District tournament, we actually should be very proud, having to field a team like the walking wounded. (approximately 11 knocks and injuries) The season for us now have not quite finished. I think personaly this has to be my longest ever season, having been involved coaching the seniors as well, and I have nt even put a pair of boots on. But we now have to face Pontypridd again in the BLUES CUP FINAL. This as you have alreary read is a tough ask, but I am convinced with their tails up at the moment the boys can do it. We have had to re structure our team and tweak a few things but it all seems to be working. It has to be said that against Ponty in the last game we had our whole back row missing, and things at the time were not going too great. But right now things are going from stength to strength, and confidence is good. Also we were only one try down, until just before the break when they scored again. (I have never until that day seen heads drop in this team, and dont expect it to happen again.)
You notice I have nt singled anyone out for special praise. This is because we have a full squad of 25 and all of them have contributed greatly to the season. It is unfortunate that we can only pick 22 for the Cup final so 3 boys will have to be left out. We will however be making a special effort on the day with all 25 meeting at the club in there number 1s, and will be all travelling together on a coach down to the CARDIFF ARMS PARK to face our famous rivals.
Because of the Cock up of having a Cardiff and Vale Tour booked on the Finals Day, we have had our day moved back. Provisionally this is booked for the 2nd of June at CARDIFF ARMS PARK 7pm K Off, but this may change.
I WOULD LIKE TO THANK ALL THE PARENTS AND GRAND PARENTS FOR THEIR SUPPORT AND SUPPORTING THE TEAM THIS YEAR.I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO THANK ALL OUR BACKROOM STAFF FOR ORGANISING THE TOUR AND ALL THE FUNDRAISING. ALSO STEVE THE ICE MAN FOR HIS STIRLING WORK.AND OF COURSE FOR UGGY AND MATT FOR THEIR CONTINUED SUPPORT.COME ON THE ROCKS.
RINGO
CAN I ASK EVERY BODY INVOLVED WITH THE CLUB TO COME OUT IN SUPPORT ON JUNE THE 2ND, YOU WILL BE SURPRISED BY THE STANDARD OF BOTH TEAMS. IT WILL BE A REAL TREAT.

BANK HOLIDAY Monday 4th May
Club Open 2pm-8.30pm

3rd May:
So who goes up and who goes down? Let's start with the Rocks. Well, excuse the pun but, the Rocks are solid. The top six have all finished their fixtures and thanks to the hard work of players, coaches (Paul Ring, Mike Morgan, Chris Churcher and Paul Glover), Mike Payne, Kevin Barry, Quincy and Mike Thomas we've finished a very healthy third place in Division Three South East. Definate bragging rights in town over the other Cardiff teams.
Not so good news for our neighbours the Old Illtydians who will be plying their trade in Division Four next season after a difficult 08-09.
Treorchy are off to Division 2 following their season with only 1 loss to Tondu just before Christmas. As for Llantwit Fardre, leaders of Division Three South East for most of the season, they will be playing in a play off against another Division Three runner-up to determine their fate. Best wishes to all.

2nd May:
Rocks end the season with a win. After a pair of defeats at the hands of Treorchy and Tylorstown, the Rocks end the season with a scalp and a high scoring one at that. Aberdare 24-35 St. Peter's. Tries by Gareth Norman (2) 'I scored one from an 80 metre interception and that is the truth - honest. It actually is ya b*rst*rd'' Mike Butler 'I broke through the line at will.' Danny Murphy 'It's not my first try for the firsts. Say nothing' Steve Ireland and Richard Kemble. Kicks by Ed Doe. A clean up for Cathays Terrace Crew. Let's hope they can score as many on holiday! We'll see.
Extra scores by Chunky, a forty yarder by Glover, half-way line drop-goal by Luke (Jimmy) Reardon, Kevin Barry, Steve Cooper, Tom Nolan 's push over from his own 22, an easy run in by Peter Vaughan and Baggsy from his own kitchen, starting before breakfast.

23rd April:
Bank Holiday Weekend at the club - Click here for info.

18th April: Good running rugby from both sides yesterday resulted in honours even at 23 all. Tries for St Peter's from Paul Davies (2), the second of which was probably one of the best I've seen this season with quick ball from the line out through the hands of the backs and Paul Davies breaking the line before passing onto Gareth Norman coming off his wing. A well timed pass back to Paul crossed over for the try. Good hands - good try. The rest of the points came from Fred Wilson slotting the ball through from each kick.

The Youth won a hard fought battle at home to Ystrad Rhondda. The Rocks youth were trailing 3-21 at the break, but not out!! Second half tries by David Mitchell, Ed Doe, Matthew Williams and Lewis Roberts brought the spoils home 31-21 in a fair well fought contest.

16th April: The Under 14 team is playing in the semi final of the Blues Cup, on Sunday 19th April, against Penarth. The game is on the Harlequins on Sunday at 3pm. Good luck lads.

12th April: Llandaff North 13 v 46 St. Peter's. Entertainment from start to finish. Photos The sun shone at Hayley Park yesterday and the Rocks -Rocked. The weather called for running rugby and St. Peter's and Llandaff North both delivered. Both teams were adverturous with their counter attacks rather than playing the tedious ping pong which is all too common. The opening try came soon after the kick off with Sean O'Brien taking the short route from 30 yards out. As the ball bobbled undecisively from a ruck Sean gathered and ran the only way he knows - towards the try line. Three more tries by Fred Wilson, Steve Ireland and Paul Davies presented the Rocks with a bonus point by half time. Just a single penalty awarded to the North in the first half took the sides for a rest at 3-26.

Luke Reardon crosses for his secondThe second half was a little more of the same with a little extra. Luke Gaffney took over the kicking duties early in the third quarter and slotted through the uprights for three points. Then came the 'little extra'. continued pressure from St. Peter's with centres Gaffney and Butler theading through the North defence almost at will. Good decision making from the centre pairing gave good field position before Llandaff North were penalised 15 yards out from thier own line. Confidence was with the Rocks, who chose the scrum option and drove the Hayley Park eight for a Luke Reardon try. Five minutes later... they did it again!
The afternoon was rounded off with a Butler try and Gaffeny conversion. Oh... and Llandaff North scored a try too.
But only one question remains unanswered... Did Bombhead really have orange boots on?
11th April:
Not sure why, but last night's game didn't go ahead. Keep an eye here to see if it's rearranged.
8th April:
This Weekend's second team fixture has now been brought forward to Friday evening. The details are now - (Good) Friday 1th April - Glamorgan Wanderers RFC v Second XV - East District Cup (A). Thanks

4th April: Three wins out of three for the Rocks is a good day at the office! The youth had an emphatic 42-7 win over Llantwit Fardre Youth with six tries (all converted) which means that after being promoted last year to the top flight of youth rugby in South Wales, the youth have secured another season at this level. Excellent work by all the players and coaching staff. Good effort.

St Peter's 2nds 20 Rogerstone 1sts 17
St Peter's put out a patched up side with Paul McCarthy, Ducky, Matthew Murphy and Steve 'Yorkie' Lawrence starting in the backs rather than in their more accustomed roles in the pack.  Despite this they had much the best of the first half in terms of possession and territory but managed only one penalty (Matthew Murphy) with  Rogerstone getting a breakaway try.
Halftime 7-3
Rogerstone added a penalty after the break for a 10-3 lead, and although the Rocks continued to look in control of the game, in particular through a dominant scrum, that remained the score with 20 minutes to go.
Inspired subsitutions by Phil Carr at this point soon changed things round, with debut making winger Nick Healy scoring with his first touch of the ball in Rocks colours (although as the shirts were turned inside out to avoid a colour clash, it was actually white).  This was soon followed by a dramatic 60 yard run from Paul McCarthy  (converted by Matthew Murphy) and a short range effort from the same player shortly afterwards to leave the Rocks firmly ahead, and a late consolation try for Rogerstone couldn't alter the result.
A number of players stood out in what was a very encouraging performance from the Rocks, including Italian chef Andrea 'Bergomasco' Rossi and New Zealand opera singer Phil Rhodes, while mention should be made of the fact that Paul O'Brien has now played 80 minutes for two weeks in succession.  Man of the match had to go however to Danny Murphy, whose continued absence from the first team becomes more and more mystifying. Report by Gerald Phillips.

Meanwhile up at Rumney Rec, The first team beat Old Illtydians with a convincing scoreline of 8-20. good tries by Tom Nolan, Kris Barry and Gareth Norman set Fred Wilson up to round the day off with his boot. So that's the double this season over the Illts having beaten them at home in November 22-9. St. Peter's never really looked like losing yesterday at the 'other' rec, but the lack of a bonus point which was clearly there for the taking must be a little disappointing. The Rocks opened up the Illts defence on at least three occasions with only the final decision to pass or go it alone being squandered. Its nice to be able to make such comments after a win though. <<Photos>>
Next week the first XV face Llandaff North away. We'll need to be even tighter next week, to finish all our attacking plays at Hayley Park, after going down 21-23 back in December.
3rd April: Another good win for the Rocks last week (31-13 to Brecon) whilst I was away on holiday, keeps the Rocks in Third place behind Llantwit Fardre and Treorchy. The maths behind this has sent Brecon into sixth position whilst a win for Llanishen promotes them into fourth, one point behind St. Peter's, but with a game in hand. This weekend sees another Cardiff derby match as the Rocks take the arduous journey up Rumney Hill to face Old Illtydians 2.30 kick off. Weather report is good so well worth the trip.
Meanwhile the seconds are travelling also tomorrow as they face Rogerstone.
On another note... Lottery up to £3700 - tickets available from the players and also in the club before and after the match tomorrow.
23rd Mar:
U-13's Blues Cup semi-final at St.Peter's this Sunday 29th March 12 o'clock kick off. The more supporters the better, from Matthew Sweeney.

9th Mar
: Rocks help with Wales World Cup Win!!

Craig Hill - A Rock!Triv from Baldy... I was watching the IRB world 7’s tonight and saw the final, with Wales featuring Craig Hill from Newport, Craig was on Dual Registration with us 2001/ 02 when Simon was coaching and played 15 games according to my records.

Having watched the final he has bulked up as he was 18 or 19 but it is the same Craig Hill, he was with Caerphilly then but moved to Newport the following season, I have checked the Newport website and I am pretty certain that I am correct..

Thanks Mike

7th Mar: It wasn't nice and it certainly wasn't pretty - but it was a win! Having started with some promise the weather died a death about 2.30 for the encounter today at Waterhall Park and so too did the possibility of any open flowing rugby. Fairwater were determined to kill the ball or kick possession away in favour of field position for the whole of the afternoon.
The first half was predictably dour with the rain coming in down the length of the pitch in favour of the Rocks, who perhaps didn't use the conditions as effectively as they might in this phase of the game. The monotony was eventually opened up with a Scrum Half kick through by Scott O'Brien for older bro Sean to chase. The wet ball and the conditions proved a little too slippery for the Fairwater full back, who fumbled the ball for Sean to collect and feed Luke 'Bombhead' Gaffney to score and convert his own try.
A series of missed penalties into the wind from Fairwater kept the Rocks in front until the Waterhall Park team were prevented from scoring and were awarded a penalty try just before half time. 7-5 ht.
On the turn around Fairwater used their home advantage to pin St. Peter's back into their own half for most of the remaining 40 minutes. The conditions certainly prevented the opening running rugby that the Rocks enjoy and with a few handling errors here and there from key players the Rocks found themselves trailing 13-12 with 10 mins to go.
"Come on Ref' It's a Man's game!" was heard from the home supporters touch line and the last 10 mins was certainly a finale which saw the Rocks stand up to that mantle. Fairwater continued to kick away possession, and miss a total of four penalties, which St. Peter's repeatedly ran back at the home side. The final blow came from a kick to full back - Paul Davies - who countered with a 30 yard dash through the Fairwater forwards, before releasing Sean O'Brien to run in the last 25 breaking countless tackles on the way.
Good finish. Good win. Crap weather!

The seconds meanwhile had a difficult encounter with Penallta IIs, going down 7-13 at home. Try to Gareth Bater, playing at 10, and conversion by Matthew Murphy.

Superb win for the Youth at Monmouth taking the spoils 21-27.

5th Mar: Change of fixture for the seconds this Saturday. Still at home, the seconds now have Penalta seconds.2.30 kick off.
1st Mar: Many thanks to Lawrence Hourahane, who spotted that St. Peter's stole a mention in last Friday's Times. Click
22nd Feb: Following yesterday's bonus point victory over Penarth, 24-6, St. Peter's move to a highly respectable fourth position in Division 3 South East. Tries Sean O'Brien, Paul Davies, Tony Jonston  and penalty-try. Two conversions - Luke Gaffney. Alongside Llanishen, our north Cardiff neighbours, the Rocks currently have 39 points, whilst Treorchy, with 8 try bonus points, (4 more than ourselves) hold second place and Llantwit Fardre are out in front undefeated on 53. Llanishen are currently in third place having played one game less than the Rocks.
A disappointed second team lost yesterday to Rumney II and the youth went down 22-3 to Treorchy.
17th Feb: Second Team Fixture: Sat 21st Feb - Rumney II (A)

9th Feb: Llantwit Fardre 16 St.Peter's 13 - Report by Mike Payne.
The Rocks had a golden opportunity to inflict a first defeat of the season on table topping Llantwit Fardre. The home team took the lead through a 2nd minute penalty. A very dubious try after 20 minutes (The referee was the only person "watching" the game who didn't think the pass for Llantwit's try was not five yards forward) and a conversion gave the home team a 10 point lead. Luke Gafney reduced the deficit by putting over a penalty on the stroke of half time. The second half saw the home side convert another penalty. for a 13 - 3 lead. The Rocks forwards were now dominating the home pack. This was surely the best performance by the Rocks pack all season. Following a drive from a lineout the ball was fed to Luke Gafney who broke through the home defence to score a great try which he converted, to take the score to 13-10. Despite mounting pressure from the Rocks dominant pack the only other scores of the second half was a penalty a piece. Luke Gafney kicking the rocks penalty to give him all thirteen points. The Rocks take a losing bonus point from this game which they deserved to win.

Good win for the seconds again, defeating Wick 17-15

2nd Feb: No more updates this week - I'm away. Kevin

31 Jan: Seconds beat Old Illtydian Seconds 65-0 this weekend. Three tries by Nick Murphy and a brace by Nathan Thompson rounded off a superb try-fest against local boys from up the hill. Nuff said!
On the return fixture against Llanishen, Rocks first XV scored two tries to Llanishen's nil but the five penalties against gave the home team a win. Llanishen 15 -10 St. Peter's. Next game - Penarth on 21st Feb.
24th Jan:
2009 is proving to be a good year so far. Following the wins over Nantymoel and Aberdare, Rocks make it three wins out of three. Two early missed penalites by Llanishen was replied with three first half penalties from Neil Ginja Parsons and a well worked try finished off by Paul Davies gave the Rocks a 16 -0 half time lead.
The second half was more of the same. Another missed penalty by Llanishen before they eventually made it onto the score board. Rocks sealed the game with a cracking Tony Johnson try from close range (Tony will tell you he ran 40 yards). Final Score 21-9. Next week its more of the same with the return fixture to be played at Llanishen's ground, Usk Road.. <<Photos>>
The second's faced Llantwit Fardre ll's where they were defeated 17-22. Tries for Seconds to Mike Baldwin, Steve 'Yorkie' Lawrence and Owen Evans. Conversion by Dai Mitchell. It was a good game, but I haven't got much to say about it really. Gerald Phillips.

Setanta Sports

22nd Jan: St Peter's RFC are pleased to announce that we are now showing Setanta Sports on TVs at the Clubhouse in Minster Rd. With so many rugby and s*cc*r games now moving to Setanta it is only right that we allow members the full opportunity of getting out of the house for an hour or four to watch sport. Sunday 25th January - CARDIFF CITY V ARSENAL on the screens in the Club.

18th Jan: Thinking of going to the Blues v Calvisano game Friday evening? Purchase tickets via the link on this page and part of the purchase price comes back to St. Peter's.

17th Jan: 13 tries for the Rocks with only 22 points against today for the first and second teams. A good day at the Office!! No game for the youth as it was a 'School-Saturday'.
The first team had a good win over struggling Nantymoel today with a 46-15 victory earning a well needed bonus point. Tries by Kris Barry, Paul Davies, Gareth, Norman, Sean O'Brien, Scott O'Brien, Owen Evans and 'I scored a stunner Butler'. Other points by Bombhead and Ginger. This was a well earned victory led by the 'Comeback-Captain' - Rob O'Brien.
The Seconds also had a try-fest beating CHSOB seconds 38-7. Tries by Rhys Jones(2), Paul O'Brien, Brendan Bush, Mathew Khan and Ducky.
11th Jan: The visit of Aberdare to the Harlequins yesterday, allowed the Rocks 1st XV win their first game since 29th November (2 losses and 3 postponements) and also to start the new year as they have done for the last two years - with a win. 2007 - Tylorstown:15-0 and 2008 - Brecon:8-10.
Yesterday's win saw a return to the coaching staff with Mike Morgan of Chris Churcher, after a good spell at the helm from Paul Ring. Many thanks for all your hard work Paul.
Following a brief exchange of penalties in the first half Paul Davies broke through the Aberdare back line in a well worked move to take the score to 7-6 after 23 mins. A number of unsuccessful kicking opportunities from both sides kept the score frozen until Sean O'Brien finished off a well worked move by the Rocks. Retained ball from a 22 drop-out was well recycled and moved along the full back line for Sean to burst through a plethora of tackles and finish in the opposite corner.

No Try - Foot in Touch Fred Wilson, starting at 10 slotted over a couple of penalties before a bizarre incident left Mike Butler having his try apparently disallowed by Mike Thomas after a discussion with the ref. A final try by Sean O'Brien finished the game off 23-18. <<Photos>>.
The seconds were at home to Oakdale and put in a good solid performance, but unfortunately went down 15-19. All points scored by David Mitchell.

9th Jan: St. Peters RFC wish to express their condolences to the families of Elizabeth Murphy and Eddie Downey, who passed away recently.

3rd Jan: Not suprisingly, the pitches at Llantwit Fardre 'would not take a Stud',(according to the Llantwit Fardre secretary). Make up your own jokes. Other news... Penarth beat Fairwater 20 - 13.

22nd Dec:
A Very Merry Christmas to all from St. Peter's RFC.
21st Dec:
As the fixture against Llanishen was yet again postponed, fortune favoured the seconds, who set aside Llanrumney Legion 29-10, in the second round of the Mallet Cup.
19th Dec:
Seconds to Play Llanrumney Legion in the Mallet Cup on Saturday 20th December.

14th Dec:
The winter weather meant that the trip to Tylorstown yesterday was the first rugby casualty of the season and no youth game meant that the only activity on the field came from the seconds. Following on from a good win over Llandaff North seconds last week, the seconds notched up another victory over local cardiff team CIACS taking the spoils 39-20.
On other notes, congratulations to Owain Lloyd, who has made the first XV for Plymouth University in his first year at the Uni. He is now playing alongside John Correllis who is currently in his third year.
Another of our youth players - Lewis Roberts, currently a medical student in Oxford, recently played in the Varsity warm-up playing for Oxford Under 21's in front of 30 000 at Twickenham. Well done to all three.

7th Dec:
Extra Yuletide Fixture: Rocks to host neighbours Llanishen RFC on 20th Dec.
30th Nov:
Good wins for St. Peter's Seniors and Youth yesterday. The Seniors beat a UWIC XV 42-14 and the Youth beat Dinas Powys 22-17 and just for the history books... Wales beat Australia: 21-18. Just in case you didn't know already. Back to league action next week as the Rocks entertain locals Llandaff North at the Harlequins.

1 Nov: The push over try in the 76th minute gave St. Peter's their second bonus point of the season winning 22-9; and who better to score it against than local boys Old Illtydians. In a game of far too many errors from both sides the temperature of the game rarely rose above freezing point. Coach Mike Morgan after the game admitted that far too many simple mistakes meant that 'we made hard work of it today, but a win is a win!'. Congratulations to Richard Kemble who crossed for his first try for St. Peter's in a first team vest. <<Photos>>
St. Peter's remain in 6th place in the league as we go into the autumn internationals. There are currently no games planned for next weekend so the next turnout will be the visit to Ynysybwl in the SWALEC Cup.
Rocks youth entertained Pentyrch youth, going down 0-34 to a far better, well drilled team. St. Peter's seconds also had a difficult time at Rumney losing 43-14. Two interception tries for Gareth Norman, conversions by Neil Parsons.

31 Oct:
SWALEC Cup Round 3 - Rocks travel for the first time in the cup when they face Ynysybwl RFC from division 2 East. The draw sees the division 1 teams enter the cup, where Merthyr have drawn fellow division 1 team Llanharan. Old Illtydians, who St. Peter's face tomorrow in the league, have a home tie to Cwmbran, whilst other Cardiff teams Rumney and Llanishen also have home ties to Skewen and Bryncoch respectively. A home tie would have been ideal, but unlike Bridgend - at least we don't have to make the trip to Caernarfon. <<full draw>> to be played on 15th Nov.
27 Oct: Apologies to users of this site, who may have been receiving last week's pages for an hour or two during lunch-time today. Normal service has now been restored.
Bombhead goes over26 Oct:
St. Peter's first team secured a third place in the SWALEC cup yesterday by beating Rhigos RFC 30-3 on the Harlequins. Rhigos played an excellent first half holding St. Peter's to 5-3 at the break. Half time words were delivered by the coaches Ring and Morgan which clearly kicked the home team in the Merthyr (where the sun don't shine). Although not the best performance of the season so far, better second half handling, angles and tackling provided the needed win. Kicking duties were handed over to Luke Bombhead Gaffney, who also rolled over for a try. Good luck to Rhigos for the rest of the season who will clearly do well with similar performances. Local derby next week, when the Rocks host the Old Illts at the Harlequins before a break for the autumn internationals. <<Photos>>
Second team had a long trip to Mountain Ash, but went down 31-14.
The Youth faced a strong Pontyclun team at the Harlequins who played some excellent rugby beating the home team 8-39. Vince Nolan said after the game that 'yes there were a few rocks missing, but we are offering no excuses in losing to a better team.' 'It's certainly nothiing that can't be fixed!' added Darren Priday. 'Definately the best team we've played so far this season.' The youth are already looking forward to their next league game.
24 Oct: Saturday-Fixtures: Seconds away to Mountain Ash whilst the thirds entertain Newport Saracens at home (Blackweir).
20 Oct: Youth News from Vince: This weekend we have Pontyclun at home in our first league game. We have also drawn them in the East District Cup and may double up on the fixture. We have drawn St.Joes in the Cardiff and District Cup who are also in our league. Tom Rush and Ed Doe have been picked again to play for the UK Aussie Rules Team following their recent successful tour to Australia. Both also feature in the under 18 Blues team.
19 Oct: Good wins for the seconds and thirds against Old Illtydians and Llandaff make it two out of three for the Rocks yesterday. The seconds away to Old Itt's put on a superb 38-27 winning performance which led, a delighted, Phil Carr to announce the game was good - a wicked spectacle. The thirds enjoyed a comfortable runout at home to Llandaff with a 52- 5 win. Once again Baldy, in his new, position of hooker crossed the line. That's a try every game for the club's new hooker - Tom Nolan watch out! Other tries by Matthew Sweeney, Steve Lawrence, Sean Waldron, Nathan Thompson (2), Jamie Churcher (2), Phil Martin and David Price. Kicking duties were severly hampered by a lack of a kicking tee, resulting in one conversion. How did teams cope before?
14 Oct: The Rock - St. Peter's RFC Newsletter - October 08. If you did not receive your copy via email today, sign up for 'The Rock' here.
12 Oct: St. Peter's dominated from the start and Neil Parsons punished Fairwater indiscipline with two early shots on target to take an early 6-0 lead. Two patient, well worked tries to Sean O'Brien and Dean Grech gave the Rocks a solid 18-0 half time lead. After the break, ginger hair and golden boots Parsons slotted another two and further tries to super sub James Mullane and scrum half Scott O'Brien finished the game off. A consolation converted try gave a final result of 36-7. Four tries to St. Peter's gives us a very long awaited bonus point in joint 5th position with Llanishen. <<Photos>> Seconds had a convincing win at CHSOB bringing home the spoils 10-66, whilst the third team battled against a strong Llantrisant 2nds going down 41-5 (try to Nathan Thompson). Next week Thirds at home to Llandaff.
09 Oct: Tickets available to members for Wales v South Africa: 8th November. Tickets range from £40-£55 <<here>>
05 Oct: Difficult to know what to report about the game at Penarth yesterday without upsetting the whole refereeing establishment! Best to just report the facts. It was raining and windy. St. Peter's led 0-11 at half time. The final score was 9-11. Penarth missed three penalties in the second half. Seven (7) yellow cards were awarded. One try was scored by John Patterson. Neil Parsons converted two penalties. Statement made by a Penarth Supporter in the stand - If the ref wasn't here we wouldn't have a game. The replies are unprintable!! Those are the facts. <<photos>>
2nd Oct: Following the victory over Ammanford in the first round of the SWALEC Cup, Rocks have another home draw to Rhigos RFC in the second round. To be played on the weekend of 25th October. <<more>>

Cardiff Blues
1st Oct: Rocks described as 'legendary' <<more>>
28th Sept: Ammanford started off exceptionally well at the Harlequins Playing Fields yesterday. The travelling team from League Division Two West carved holes like a knife through butter in the opening ten minutes with a try which looked like it was going to be an extremely long afternoon for the Rocks. 0-7 down after ten minutes against a team from a higher division than yourselves makes you think!!!! The Rocks pack certainly did that yesterday. Controlled rolling maul play and thoughtful positional kicking from Neil Parsons gave the rocks a comfortable 23-17 win. By late second half the Rocks pack proved far too strong taking balls against the head in both lines-out and scrummages. Following the game coaches Ring and Morgan voiced their delight at the lack of errors through the game and improved phase play. Let's wait and see what the second round brings. <<Photos>>
The second team also had a good win (27-15) over Canton Seconds in the Mallet Cup. Gerald Assassin pointed out Nick Murphy and Lloyd Barrett for particular mention, but top-billing goes to Mike Baldwin - at last he has found his true position! Starting as hooker for the first time in 31 years, Baldy led from the front scoring a blistering try from 5 yards out. Kicks by Dave Mitchell
22nd Sept: The funeral of Brian Ring will take place at St. Alban's Church on Monday 29th September. St. Peter's RFC will be open following the service for friends and family.
20th Sept: Question: Who scores 113 points in 8 days and doesn't even finish a game? Answer: St. Peter's Youth!! Once again the youth were first to the showers this weekend (even though the senior teams were playing away). Just as last week, under new WRU Youth  regulations (6hiii) the match was abandoned at 57-6.

Cup duties next week as the first team host Ammanford United (League Division 2 West) in the first round of the SWALEC Cup and the seconds host local team Canton in the Mallet Cup.

17th Sept: St. Peters RFC wish to express their condolences to the family of Brian Ring, who passed away on the evening of Tuesday 16th September. Funeral details to follow.

2008-09
Under new WRU Youth  regulations (6hiii) introduced this year, and with the score at 54-0 the game was stopped by the referee with 20 minutes to go.
Rock on Youth!!
14th Sept: What a start for the Rocks youth!!! The youth were simply too good in their opening game of the season for the visiting Llandaff North Youth. Vince Nolan was delighted with the performance of the team who welcomed to Matt Dando for his first game at full back. Matt is an exciting prospect who had an excellent start for the Rocks youth. Next Saturday the Youth welcome Ynysybwl to the Harlequins for the last game before seven of the squad leave for college. Great start youth!!!
5th Sept: Team list to play against Aberdare announced <<click>>
3rd Sept: Rocks get a bye in the first round of the East District Cup. Youth to play Pontyclun in their cup - to be played before November. <<Full Draw>>
1st Sept: A successful final trial match of the closed season saw the Rocks beat Nelson 27-21. The trial game of three 25 minute sessions was extremely beneficial to both sides allowing for a great deal of on off changes throughout the game. Here's looking forward to the start of the season proper next week where the first team travel to Aberdare for a 2.30 kick off. Second team fixture to be announced.
31st Aug: Congratulations to five of our under 16 baseballers who represented Wales against England recently in Liverpool. Joshua Dunleavy, Dean Brockway, Gavin Cooper, Nathan James and Jordan Hooper. That's over half the team!! Wales won by one run. History remembers winners - remember 32-31?
9th Aug: Introducing the new Experimental Law Variations? Do you know where the off side line is at a scrum? Corner posts - in touch or out? Find out the new ELVs <<here>>

8th May: With the 2007-8 finally at an end, the Rocks can certainly view this season as one of two halves. St. Peter's first XV have ended the season 'on par'. Eleven wins and eleven defeats has provided St.Peter's with a very respectable 6th place in Division 3 South East. Click here for full WRU stats. Full season round up to follow.
Please note that this site will not be updated for the week 9th - 16th May.
6th May: Abergavenny Tournament: Sat 3rd May, <<Report>>
1st May: 23 points from the boot of Fred Wilson, supported by 4 excellent tries (Viv Rees (2), Mike Butler and Nick Murphy) last night saw St. Peter's retain the Ninian Stuart Cup. Paul Macca McCarthy led the rocks thirds out on to the Arms Park ground as holders of the cup from last year. Memories of the famous 14-16 victory over Cardiff came flooding back, but matters at hand were clearly more important for the 2008 thirds. Good opening cup nerve tussles started the game, but were soon put to rest as Viv Rees rounded on the far side of the pitch from the numerous rocks supporters to make an easy conversion for man of the match Fred Wilson. Super all round handling and dominant forward play soon swept aside Llandaff North, who, thanks to the defence of St. Peter's were unable to put a point on the board. St Peters 43-Llandaff North 0. <<Photos>>

JUNIOR NEWS
St Peters under 15s tournament to be held at the club this
Sunday 20th April.
The under 16s tournament to be held Sunday 27th April.
Presentation Nights
Friday 16th May 8s to12s.
Friday 23rd May.13s to 16s.

29th April: Rocks at Tonyrefail. Postponed. New date not yet announced.
Under 12 report from Worthing: St.Peter's U-12's made the long trip to Worthing on Sunday in an attempt to defend the trophy that they won last year. They drew the first game against Lewes 0 - 0 and then proceeded to win their next three games 25 - 0, 30 - 0 and 20 - 0 to progress to the final ahead of Lewes on try count. In the final they came across a very determined and agressive Tunbridge Wells team who managed to win by a single try. During the tournament there were some good performances from Ryan Hill, James Dunne, Daniel Jones and Andre Fedeli. Try scorers were Callum Sheedy(7), Jack Beere(3), Ryan Hill, James Dunne, Andre Fedeli, Jacob John and Connor Meehan. Report by Matthew Sweeney.
27th April:
St.Peter's U-12's managed to beat St.Albans by 14 - 7 in an excellent match at the Harlequins ground on Friday. Try scorers for the rocks were Ryan Farah and Joe Peckham with Calum Sheedy adding both conversions. In the last few weeks St.Peter's have beaten Aberdare, Pontyclun and now St.Albans to establish themselves as a real force to be reckoned with at this age-level. Report by Matthew Sweeney.
27th April: Back to winning ways!!! The first team played host yesterday to visiting Brecon RFC. Scoring early the rocks took a 7 point lead. This however was squandered during the first half when the Rocks found themselves 7-17 down. An excelent second half, with Ginger showing his skills, saw the firsts gain a well needed 32-17 win. Just two games to go now before the end of the season. Next game Tuesday evening at Tonyrefail.
26th April: Tonyrefail game rearranged. The away game against Tonyrefail will now be on Tuesday evening; kick off 18.00
21st April: Seconds and youth and U12/13 have a great weekend.
UNDER 12/13: played host to Sils RFC from Solihull on Saturday, coming out the victors 39-38 in a thrill filled spectacle on the Harlequins. Paul Ring (coach) was pleased that the U12s mixed in well with the 13s helping to score 4 tries in 10 mins before the midlanders came back strong. With some superb tries from both teams, a final great try from Solihull was not quite enough to take the spoils. Well done Juniors.
YOUTH: Great news for the youth. The youth entertained Llantwit Fardre winning 24-14. This however was just the win (4 tries to 2) the youth needed to maintain their place in the top flight of Welsh Youth Rugby. Having earned their place in this league after a number of years, Vince Nolan and Dazza's boys ably assisted by Warren Mitchell have successfully stayed in this league after the win on the weekend. Commiserations to Llantwit Fardre who have now lost their place in this league. Good luck to you all in retaining your place next year.
SECOND XV: <<Match Report>> by Paul O'Brien
UNDER 13s: beat Llanishen on Sunday 27-0. Tries scored by Cobi Flowers(2), Danny Wardle , Aaran Reid and Ryan Spriggs. Conversion by Jack Hoskin. Great defence work by all team members. From Stuart Baird
17th April: Rocks roll into a second Ninian Stuart Cup final in as many years. The Third XV ran in 4 tries to nil against Caerau Ely at the Riverside Park, Rumney this evening. Mike Thomas (manager) said that if it hadn't been for the wind - it would have been a great deal more. Tries by S, Ellis, D. Sage (2) and G. Bater with 8 points on the boot from Fred Wilson.<<Photos>>. The Ninian Stuart Cup Final is on 30th April against Llandaff North. Venue to be announced.

Have you seen the 2009 Six nations fixture list? 8pm kick off on a Friday? Click here for more news.

17th April: Change of plan. Seconds are now at home on Saturday to Sully.
15th April: On Friday the U-12's beat Pontyclun by 22 -10 at the Harlequins in an excellent display of rugby, tries were scored by Muntasser Al-Habsi, Joe Peckham, Jack Pattison and Jack Beere with Callum Sheedy adding a conversion.
On Sunday they also won at Llanishen by 17 - 19, tries were scored by Al-Habsi(2) and a fine solo effort by Andrew Corfield, Sheedy and Corfield added a conversion each. (Report by Matthew Sweeney)
14th April: As the end of the season draws near, its time to get to grips with all the postponed fixtures from the winter. Take a look at the full fixtures to see what is coming up. This week we have the Old Illts on Wednesday evening at Rumney Rec, where we will be aiming to get back on winning ways. The thirds have progressed to the Semi final of the Ninian Stuart Cup (current holders). This year - as last - we have Caerau Ely at Rumney RFC ground. Come on support the thirds!!!
8th April: More good news from the U12s. On Fri the U-12's went up to Aberdare to play a side who had beaten them on the first game of the season. This time they managed to gain revenge with an excellent 0 - 17 win, tries were scored by Callum Sheedy(2) and Muntasser Al-Habsi, with Sheedy adding the conversion. Everyone was outstanding with the defence proving decisive achieving yet another clean sheet.
On Sunday the U-12's welcomed a touring side from Effingham and Leatherhead and fell behind in the opening minutes to a long range try. However, as the game went on St.Peter's wore the opposition down and ran out 34 - 5 winners. Tries were scored by Andrew Corfield(2), Muntasser Al-Habsi, Conor Tonkin, Andre Fedeli and Jordan Viggers, Corfield and Lee Ford added conversions. Special mention must go to Owen Rosser who had a brilliant game putting in some crunching tackles. (report by Matthew Sweeney)
4th April: St Peters comfortably put Llanishen out of the cup last night with a 40-7 win at the Harlequins ground. Llanishen looked like a well drilled outfit who could string a number of well worked moves together, but after kick off it all went a bit pear shaped for the travelling team. Hard running, swift hands and a determination to keep the ball alive saw the holders of the Ninian Stuart Cup score regularly in the first half. A solid performance all round. <<photos>>
2nd April: To celebrate the 10 000th visitor to www.stpetersrfc.co.uk , since October 21, 2007, the site has undergone a colossal reconstruction. The site is averaging over 400 hits a week, which must be one of the best supported Rugby Club sites outside the regions. Keep watching for more improvements to the site.

31st March: St.Peter's U-12's took part in an excellent 12 -12 draw at St.Albans. Scorers for the rocks were Muntasser Al-Habsi and Andre Fedeli, Callum Sheedy added the conversion. In the development game Al-Habsi scored again with Jack Beere converting but St.Albans ran out 12 - 7 winners.
30th March: Good wins for the seconds and youth on Saturday. The seconds ran riot at Old Penarthians winning 7-66 (47 point sup at half time). Scoring 10 tries any day is good going, but in the howling Penarth wind this was a cracking performance enhanced by some great passing and running rugby<<report>>. The youth also had an excellent win away at Llantwit Major 8-35. The youth are certainly a team worth watching at the present time.

St Peters Junior Section would like to thank Neil Parker and his company
SURFSCAN LTD
for sponsoring the shirts for the Under 13s for the next year.

26th March: Rocks lie in fourth place in Div 3 SE as we travel to Tonyrefail this coming weekend. <<more>>

25th March: Further to the superb news below for the under 12s. Take a look at these photos. Thanks to Matthew Sweeney for supplying these.

23rd March: St.Peter's U-12's continued their excellent season by qualifying for an end of season finale at Twickenham on May 31st as a curtain raiser for the Guinness Premiership Final. They went up to Nottingham this weekend and competed against some good English sides in a tournament arranged by Gullivers Travels. In the pool stages they beat Ealing 5 - 0, Ilkeston 15 - 0 and Dursley 30 - 0 before losing 5 - 0 against Brighton. This meant they came second in their pool and would have to face unbeaten Roslyn Park for a place at HQ. In a close fought affair St.Peter's emerged victorious by 5 - 0. Over the two day Festival tries were scored by Callum Sheedy(5), Muntasser Al-Habsi(4), Conor Meehan and Owen Davies and all the players should feel proud of the their performances.

11th March: St.Peters U-12's capped off a fine tour at Bognor Regis by winning the Guildford Tournament. They beat Windsor 5 -0 with Connor Tonkin scoring the try before drawing the next two games with Reeds and Guildford. Effingham and Leatherhead were beaten 5 - 0 with Jack Beere scoring the winner before Esher were despatched 17 - 0 with Callum Sheedy(2) and Beere scoring the tries. (Report by M. Sweeney) <Photo>

2nd March: St.Peter's seconds blew away Sully yesterday. The wind and general weather conditions was the biggest enemy for both teams at the Harlequins but the seconds played the handling game well and 'rocked'  Sully by 38-7. Tries to Danny Murphy, Nicky Murphy, Nicky Kelly, James Mullane and a brace for Owen Evans. The two Nicks converted their own tries. Information supplied by Danny & Nick Murphy and Nick Kelly.

25th Feb: St.Peter's U-12's won away at Tonyrefail by 27 - 0, tries were scored by Callum Sheedy(2), Andrew Corfield, Ben Parker and Connor Tonkin with Corfield adding a conversion.

21st Feb: Rocks go into international weekend in second place. <<click>>
18th Feb: The U-9's beat Fairwater at home by 6 tries to 2, with Tom Meehan scoring four of them. The U-12's also beat Fairwater at home by 56 - 0, Muntasser Al-Habsi(2), Joe Baraz(2), Connor Meehan(2), Jacob John, Josh Thomas, Owen Davies and Jack Pattison scored the tries, with Andrew Corfield adding three conversions. The U-13's lost at Fairwater by 12 - 5. The U-15's lost 28 - 0 in a keenly contested game at home to Ystrad Mynach. The U-16's drew 12 - 12 away at Fairwater, Adam Westgarth and James Humphries scored tries with Sean James adding the conversions.

17th Feb: Following three consecutive defeats, the Rocks were neither looking for pretty or spectacular. The requirement for the day was a solid performance in defence and good strong running. All was delivered with a convincing 25-11 victory over second place Tylorstown (reported incorrectly as 27-13 in the Wales on Sunday). Tries by Lewis Roberts (pictured above), Oliver Hughes and Tony Corsi. Rest of points by Ginger. Next game in a fortnight.<<Photos>>

14th Feb: Current league positions as of 14-02-08 <<Click>>

12th Feb: Junior Rugby Update from Matthew Sweeney. The U-11's beat Machen at home. The U-12's beat Cwmbran at home 52 -0, Muntasser Al-Habsi(4), Callum Sheedy(3), Jacob John, Connor Tonkin and Ryan Farrah scored the tries, Andrew Corfield added a conversion. The U-13's beat Tonmawr 24 - 0 at home.

2nd Feb: Soon after the start of the game the boys were trailing by 2 tries to nil but this was all to change. The second half was yet to come! The story had only just begun. No, this is not the story of Twickenham when Wales once again beat England for the third time in four years. This was the story at the Harlequins Playing Field, where the Rocks (who are, who are, who are we?) under 13s faced Cowbridge. Once the sides had turned about for half time, it was one-way traffic for the green and blacks. A final minute try, followed by a touch-line conversion by Jack Hoskins, ended the game with the spoils going to the Rocks. A truly enjoyable spectacle of flowing rugby provided by some definite stars of the future. Tries by Cobi Flowers and Aaron Reid(2) Well done boys!!! <<Photos>>

1st Feb: Bit of fun... click <<here>>. Enter your first and last name. Then click VISUALISER.

27th Jan: Summer rugby on a sunny winter's day from the seconds as they ran riot over Pentyrch IIs. From the off the Rocks threw the ball wide and away from the uncontested scrums (what was all that about?). Tries by Matthew Khan, James Mullane (2), Gareth Norman (2), Liam Norman (who also narrowly missed a conversion), Mike Butler and Nick Kelly spread out the spoils <<Photos>>. The youth were narrowly defeated 16-23 by Pontypridd.
21st Jan: Limited number of tickets available to members for Wales v Scotland on 9th Feb. Available at the Club on Saturday 26th Jan. Further Details contact Terry.

15th Jan: Hospitality packages announced for Six Nations 2008.

13th Jan: Rocks slip up for the first time in '08, losing by a single penalty 0-3 to Gilfach Goch <<Photos>>. Seconds pull off an excellent win 27-8 against Taffs Well IIs. 8th Jan: St.Peters take up top spot in Division 3SE. <<more>>

7th Jan: JUNIOR NEWS - St.Peters U-12's won at Sully by 49 - 10. Tries were scored by Callum Sheedy(2), Owen Davies, Dan Jones, Andre Fideli, Ryan Farrah and Jordan Viggers. Jack Beere added two conversions. The U-13's beat Pontypridd at home by 29 -14, tries were scored by Danny Wardle, Kyle Abraham, Ryan Spriggs and Aaran Reid. Jack Huntley and Jack Hoskins provided the conversions.

5th Jan: Brecon picked up a losing bonus point, but Rocks held out till the very end to take the spoils 8-10. Once again a rain spoilt game was hard fought and hard won by the travelling Rocks. <<PHOTOS>>

Second XV? Not only did the seconds win but, the seconds won an East District Cup Game and won it by beating the Old Illtydians 0-18. Great Result. Tries by Nick Kelly, Paul O'Brien and Tom Nolan.

Youth put in their best performance so far this season, but the 7-17 losing score line does not do the youth justice. Only a break away try at the last gave the margin to the Wanderers.

4th Jan 2008: First XV travel to Brecon for the end the first half of the season. Supporters bus leaves at 12.15.
30th Dec:
First XV end the 2007 just as they started it. January 6th - remember that far back? - Tylorstown visited the Harlequins and went down 15-0. December 29th, a full 356 days later the Rocks again host at the Harlequins and overcome a lack-lustre Penarth 16-6 <<MATCH REPORT>>in a weather dominated fixture <<PHOTOS>>. Seconds comfortably beat Caerau Ely 20-7.
23rd Dec: Seconds win comfortably 0-22 on Tremorfa Park against a St Albans II XV who were not strong enough. Youth played a hard fought game against an in-form Ystrad Rhondda. Finally losing 21-31 the score does not reflect the excellent performance of the youth team who themselves scored two of the best tries of the game. <<photos>>

17th Dec: St.Peters U-12's beat Llandaff at Llandaff fields 57 - 0. Tries were scored by Andrew Corfield(3), Jack Pattison(2), Harri Hibbs(2), Joe Baras, Callum Sheedy, Jacob John and Ryan Hill, with Jack Beere adding a conversion. (Report by Matthew Sweeney)

15th Dec: Rocks mixed first / second team overcome a strong Mountain Ash XV 10-3. St. Peters put out a combination of players from the senior sides. 'The youngsters tackled their hearts out and played superbly' reported Rocks Chairman Steve Cooper.

11th Dec: First team announce friendly. St Peter's v Mountain Ash on Saturday 15th December at the Harlequins - 2.30Kick off.
8th Dec:
Unfortunately the weather has been the winner once again this weekend, with both the seconds at Sully and Bedlinog at home for the firsts both being cancelled. Next league game is scheduled for 29th December when Penarth RFC travel to the Harlequins for the first visit in a long long time. Hopefully a friendly can be arranged for 15th December, so keep an eye on the site for news.

21st Nov: St.Peters U-11's beat Pentyrch at the Harlequins ground by 50 - 14, tries were scored by Will Beeching(2), Steve Mbanza(2), Alex Strange, Owen Barry, Hamed Malik and James Grindell, while Tom Shorey(2), James Grindell(2) and Mbanza added the conversions. St.Peter's U-12's won a very hard fought game against Pontypridd by 7 - 0, Connor Meehan scoring the decisive try and Callum Sheedy adding the conversion.  (Report by Matthew Sweeney)

15th Nov: Second team fixture announced for Saturday. Seconds to face Llanrumney 1st XV at the Harlequins Playing Field.

13th Nov: Rocks currently second place to Bedlinog Division 3 SE. <<more>>

12th Nov: Da Iawn! Ardderchog!! First and Second XV both start slow but remember its not over till .... sings. Starting slowly the first XV only manage a small lead at half time, but a solid second half performance allow a bonus point romp. Second team pack leave Old Illts reeling. From the first -8 man shove - scrum to the last - under the post - shove the seconds provide a good lesson in forward play. The four-foot-five half back pairing do the rest!  Great day out!!

JUNIOR NEWS
St.Peters U-12 won by 74 - 0 at Glamorgan Wanderers. Tries were scored by Joe Baras(3), Joe Sweeney, Andre Fideli, Joe Peckham, Owen Davies, Muntasser Al-Habsi, Ryan Hill,Jack Pattison, Andrew Corfield and Jack Beere, with Callum Sheedy(5), Corfield and Beere adding the conversions.

A great turn out as usual, 21 players eager to impress. The players were split and the first 10 conquered llantwit with some good passing moves (about time). They took the lead 3 tries to 0. 28th Oct:
Mixed fortunes at St. Peters this weekend. Seconds ut in a brave performance going down 13-20 at the hands of the students of UWIC, whilst Treorchy youth beat St. Peters youth by 33-0. BUT... FORTUNE FAVOURS THE BRAVE!!!Following the narrow win over Treorchy away at the start of the season we were told to wait until the next game when they will have their full team available. Well yesterday Treorchy came to Cardiff and talk was cheap. The Rocks put together a near perfect performance leading by 30 with no answer at half time and adding a further 15 in the second half. Superb performances from the whole team - eclipsed by a hat-trick of tries by captain Luke Reardon and electric, length-of-the-field, unselfish counter-attacking by Sean O'Brien. <<Photos>>

CLUB DINNER

21st July

7th May: St. Peter's are promoted to Division 3. Following a nail-biting match at Nantyglo which unfortunately did not go our way. St. Peters RFC are promoted. That's the news we've been waiting for all week.

NHSOB, St. Peter's and Garndiffaith have all ended the season on points, so the league title has, in line with the laws of the league, been settled on try count. at the start of play prior to the game at Nantyglo, NHSOB were on 105 tries, whilst St. Peters and the Garn were on 91 and 90 respectively. A win at Nantyglo would have seen St. Peter's win the league and promotion, however due to our try count supremacy over other second placed teams in Division 4 promotion was already guaranteed. This information however, was not passed onto the players, who battled hard, leading 28 points to 12 at the midway point. A strong performance by Nantyglo finished the game in their favour 35-31.

Well done to all the players and staff involved and thank you to the large number of supporters who made their way to an uncharacteristically sunny Nantyglo.

23rd April: St. Peters Seniors and Youth still on track. A good win for the seconds against Old Howardians a the Harlequins was matched by the first team on the same park. Four tries from James Spackman led the way to a 42 - 5 victory against Trinant. With two more games to the end of the season the Rocks lead Division Four East by three clear points. Still a lot of hard work with Trinant again next week followed by Nantyglo.

The Youth claimed a 10 all draw against Fairwater. If the boys can beat St. Joseph's next week they will win their league. Before that the boys have a semi final of the Cardiff and District cup against Rumney at St. Albans - 6pm Kick off.

19th April: Dazza kicks for victory! The second team fought hard against a solid Fairwater to earn their place in the semi final of their East District Cup. A solid performance from the whole team was eclipsed by golden boots Priday who slotted home four penalties to seal the game 12 - 8.

2nd April Mixed emotions at the club this weekend. Firsts team went down 29-30 to touring side Barking in Essex, but Garndiffaith lost.

Considering Barking and the Rocks boys teams had been out till the the early hours of the morning the previous night both teams played some cracking rugby. Barking were out because they are on tour - that's fair. The Rocks are out 'well Bombhead's home isn't he!'(K.Barry: April '06). The Home team took the lead initially with the wind in their favour and on the turn around the Barking team used the wind to good effect woofing the ball down field regularly. The lead changed hands regularly during the second half, with Barking coming out victors at the final whistle. The Seconds visited Chepstow and were heavily defeated.

The news of the day however was up at Garndiffaith where NHSOB, on of two clubs who have defeated the rocks this season, defeated the home team 21-16. This throws the top of Division Four East Wide open. Had Garndiffaith won they would have opened a 6 point gap at the top of the table with St. Peters one game in hand. Now with the cat seriously among the pigeons the table is as follows.

Team
Pos Team P W Points
1 Garndiffaith 19 16 48
2 St Peters 18 15 45
2 Newport HSOB 19 15 45
4 Tredegar Irons 16 11 33
5 Trinant 16 10 30

Updated: 9th April

The Rocks now have a tough run in to the end of the season, but the maths is easy. Win all four games and we win the league.

17th February:

Current league tables from the WRU put St.Peters on top. The league tables as produced by the echo and icwales.co.uk always use the statistics of points for and points against. The WRU however use the tries for and tries against as their marker to decide league positions. The statistics below clearly show that the rocks are 6 tries ahead. With 6 games to go its still all to play for. Come on the Rocks!!!
